Shawn Bowers begins his second season as head coach of the Agnes Scott softball team. In his first year, Bowers led the Scotties to the program's most wins in three years. Two players received post-season honors, as they were named to the Great South Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team.
Bowers joined the Scotties after four years as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y. During his tenure, Bowers helped lead the Red Hawks to four consecutive winning seasons, including an NCAA Tournament berth in 2006. During that season, the team set a school record with 35 wins, and the staff earned Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
While at RPI, Bowers specialized in hitting instruction and outfield play. Prior to his tenure at RPI, Bowers held numerous other coaching positions. Among those experiences, Bowers served as a head baseball coach at Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington, Vt., where he was also a school counselor.
Bowers received his Master’s of Science degree in School Counseling from Sage Graduate School in Troy, N.Y. A 1997 graduate from Siena College, Bowers received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology and played four seasons of football for the Saints.
