M.A.T. Biology

Helping Students Understand
the World Around Them

Our M.A.T. secondary biology program equips individuals to teach not only scientific principles; it enables them to convey an understanding of science’s impact on history, modern civilization and daily life.  To achieve that, the program features a combination of courses in secondary sciences, curriculum development and learning theory.

Our biology program also provides a unique educational resource located just minutes from campus: the Fernbank Science Center, part of Atlanta’s DeKalb County School System.  The center, which features a 65-acre woodland forest and a facility hosting life and physical sciences installations, is the only one of its kind affiliated with a public school system.  The Fernbank Museum of Natural History, a science center educational partner, is also located nearby.  In addition to internships with Fernbank’s superb science faculty, field experiences include lab assignments and supervised teaching at area high schools.

This program is open to men and women with an undergraduate major in biology or related area of study but without teacher certification.
